Accommodation:
St James Residential College is fully air conditioned and provides a high standard of single room accommodation for its students. Both male and female students reside on the same campus in accommodation completely separated by the recreation room.
Each room has a single or king single bed with a mattress and mattress protector which gets washed on a regular basis. The rooms all have individual locks to ensure security of the student's property. There is a desk and pin up board in the rooms along with a bedside cabinet plus a cupboard with both drawers and hanging space.
Heaters and electric blankets are not permitted in the student's rooms due to the fire risks involved.
Both safety and security are major priorities at St James Residential College.
All dormitories have smoke detectors and alarm systems and our staff are all first aid trained.
Transport:
St James Residential College has its own Mitsubishi Rosa 24 seat, air-conditioned bus fitted with seat belts, complimented by a Toyota Hi-ace ensuring access to sport, medical and academic commitments and for travelling on regular weekend excursions.
All of our supervisors are fully qualified to operate either of the college buses.
Student Activities
St James Residential College provides a wide range of recreational activities. These include a 12 metre swimming pool with both a deep and a shallow end, large screen movie projector with access to Foxtel, our own disco lighting and sound system, student lounges (some with X Boxes), pool table, air hockey table, table tennis, computers fully networked to the school, a stand alone computer for email and web chat plus a dedicated student/parent phone. St James Residential College is adjacent to the school oval, tennis, basketball and netball courts. St James Residential College regularly offers a variety of excursions and sporting opportunities.
Each term St James Residential College holds a fund raising disco for the high school students and once a year our students conduct a Primary School Social for the local children.
The socials are organised by the students but are staffed by both college supervisors and school teachers. The local police also pop their heads in now and then to say hi and to maintain visibility within the community
St James Residential College encourages students to participate in local sporting teams such as netball, football, hockey, cricket and swimming clubs just to name a few.
Parent Satisfaction Survey
The Country High School Hostels Authority (CHSHA) conducts surveys biannually to gauge the degree to which the parents are satisfied with the service being provided by the college of their choice. In the most recent survey conducted St James Residential College received a strong vote of confidence from the families who make use of our facility.
Just under 95% gave the college an overall rating of good or better. Compared with the other CHSHA colleges, St James Residential College was "above average" on 8 of the 9 categories surveyed and received a “High Quality” rating overall as well as for the three individual categories of "Food, Parent/Staff Communication and Appearance of the college.
